Intermittent Blog Round-up
Back again with another blog round-up. It is clear that these are not going to be weekly, but frequently enough to cover interesting topics.
Speaking of interesting topics, my goal is to cover articles that are good for the novice, amateur and pro photographer alike. I get a fair amount of traffic from novices that are interested in learning more, so I certainly plan to share information for all experience levels.
What makes a good photograph?
This is not going to be a post that will give you a photography formula. Photography is not and never will be a science. Sure, a camera is a scientific instrument designed to measure and map light, but creativity is king. To start, you must have vision.
Your vision does not need to be ground breaking, but it should be unique to you. The subject matter does not need to be something fresh either. Heck, I am a portrait and wedding photographer. There is nothing new about that. Surprise, I photograph people! However, I try hard each day to approach my work with my vision. To create worthwhile photographs, for you, start with your vision.
Weekly Blog Round-Up
Not much this week regarding wedding photography, or Cleveland for that matter. I am also trying to decide how often to do a blog round-up. At most, it would be weekly. More than likely, it will be every couple weeks. If you have a preference, let me know. Also, leave a comment if you have a story, video, or inspiring images that deserve more air time.
New Client Gallery Feature – Social Network Sharing
We have just implemented a new feature that will allow wedding clients, portrait client and friends share galleries on many different social networks. The feature is integrated directly with each client photo gallery. To share any gallery, simply locate the share links at the top of the screen.

Each week, they release two new limited edition works – one photograph and one work on paper.
Gear – Elinchrom Ranger Quadra lighting
When I first saw the new battery-powered Elinchrom Ranger Quadra pack and head, I thought it was a waste. All that money for a pack and head system that only delivers 400 WS of power. I wanted something bigger.
Now that I have been dragging hundreds of pounds of lighting gear to weddings (my battery alone [...]
Cuba’s sugar train
I had no clue who Landon Nordeman was. However, I found his stunning work via Rachel Hulin, of “A Photography Blog” (God, I love Rachel). At any rate, check out the video below. Create historical information and even more amazing portraiture.

Gear – Nikon 85mm f/1.4
OK…to start we have to address the nick-name for this lens – “The Cream Machine.” You know that a lens is good when it garners a nick name. And this one gets one heck of a name. It almost sounds like it could be a 70’s porno.
The name actually refers to the out-of-focus areas, also [...]
November’s featured photographers
As you may know, I use services from PhotoShelter. Aside from the killer tools they provide, they also do a great job of featuring the work of their user community. Below is a slide show of this month’s featured photographers:
There really isn’t much wedding or portrait photography in there. And I don’t think any of [...]
